Le Gia Hieu – Outstanding Graduate of the Vietnam–Australia Dual Program, Academic Year 2024–2025
Q: Hieu, could you please introduce yourself briefly?
Gia Hieu: Hello everyone, my name is Lê Gia Hiếu, a student from Class 12S1 at Hanoi Adelaide School. I have recently graduated from the Vietnam–Australia Dual Program and have received several valuable scholarship offers from top Australian universities such as Macquarie University, The University of Adelaide, Monash University, and the University of South Australia. After careful consideration, I’ve decided to join Macquarie University with a scholarship worth AUD 40,000.
Q: Congratulations on your excellent achievement, Hieu! Could you share a bit more about your learning journey?
Gia Hieu: I have been planning to study abroad since completing lower secondary school. My family and I began exploring schools and programs in Vietnam that could help me access an international university environment early, while also opening up scholarship opportunities in countries with world-leading education systems.
After careful research, we found that the Vietnam–Australia Dual Program at Hanoi Adelaide School met many of our expectations. It allows students to graduate earlier, earn an internationally recognized South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE), and apply directly to prestigious universities without needing to complete a foundation year. This gave me a significant advantage in terms of saving both time and study costs.

After graduating from the SACE program at Hanoi Adelaide School, Le Gia Hieu received multiple prestigious scholarship offers from top universities in Australia.
Q: What impressed you the most during your time studying in the Dual Diploma program at H.A.S?
Gia Hieu: What impressed me the most about the Dual Diploma program at H.A.S was its project-based learning approach. Over the past 2.5 years, we had the opportunity to take on many different types of projects, both individually and in groups. The program also offered me many exciting and enriching learning experiences through subjects like Specialist Mathematics, Research Project, Economics, and Media Studies. These subjects helped me discover my interests and determine the career path I would like to pursue in the future.
Q: Could you share more about the learning project that left the most memorable impression on you?
Gia Hieu: The most memorable learning project for me was the Observation Film project in Media Studies. Our class was given one month to complete it. We worked together to divide tasks according to each person’s strengths. The five of us collaborated on scriptwriting, casting, filming, and post-production to create a short film that reflected our group’s unique personality.
During the process of making this debut film, we applied everything we had learned—how to frame shots, convey meaning through body language and dialogue, and, most importantly, how to collaborate effectively as a team. The project received an A grade and was highly praised by both our teachers and classmates. I felt very proud of the result and truly grateful to my teammates for putting in their best efforts throughout that one-month journey.

Le Gia Hieu and His Teammates Lift the Championship Trophy at the U19 HBL – Hanoi Basketball League 2024
Q: In addition to your impressive academic achievements, you’re also a familiar name on the basketball court with an impressive track record. Would you like to “flex” a bit and share some of your major achievements?
Gia Hieu: Basketball is one of my greatest passions. In 2022, my teammates and I won the gold medal at the Hanoi Youth Basketball Championship. The following year, at the 2023 U16 National Basketball Championship, our team took home the bronze medal. We were determined to make a comeback, and in 2024, we proudly claimed the championship trophy at the U19 HBL – Hanoi Basketball League.
Q: In your opinion, what role has basketball played in your personal growth—both physically and mentally?
Gia Hieu: I started playing basketball in Grade 4 and have loved it ever since. Playing helps me release stress and recharge after long school days. It also keeps me physically fit and gives me the energy I need to stay focused in class.
More importantly, basketball has helped me connect with friends, taught me self-discipline, and built my resilience. These are essential qualities that have supported both my academic journey and my drive to pursue the goals I’ve set for myself.
Q: Can you share a memorable story from a basketball game or school event you took part in?
Gia Hieu: The most unforgettable memory for me was the final match of the recent HBL tournament. It was my last tournament before heading to Australia, and also the final chance for my longtime teammates and me to win the championship we had always dreamed of.
We faced a tough opponent—stronger in age, skills, and physicality. The first four quarters were incredibly intense, and we struggled to keep up with the score. But in the final moments, our discipline, teamwork, and determination paid off. We made a breakthrough in the last minutes and secured the long-awaited gold trophy. That moment of victory, the emotions and joy we shared—it’s something I will never forget.

Q: Throughout your youth, you’ve fully embraced your passions while also striving for academic excellence. Can you share your secret to balancing study and personal interests?
Gia Hieu: In my opinion, time management plays a crucial role. I try to organize my schedule based on different phases and match them with my short- and long-term goals. For example, when exam periods are approaching, I reduce my basketball practice to devote more time to studying. However, I still keep light training sessions to maintain my physical condition and ensure I can keep up with the team once the exams are over.
Q: Thank you, Hieu, for your honest and thoughtful sharing. To wrap up this interview, could you send a message to the students currently studying at Hanoi Adelaide School?
Gia Hieu: I wish all of you at H.A.S the courage to work hard, chase your dreams with confidence, and stay committed to the path you’ve chosen. Keep striving and success will follow!
