A learning session without blackboards and chalk, but filled with color, curiosity, and radiant smiles – that was the outdoor learning experience “Clay Sculpting, Beautiful Pottery Painting” for Grade 2 students at Hanoi Adelaide School.

Stepping into the Bat Trang Pottery Museum – a space preserving the essence of the thousand-year-old pottery village – HASians were delighted by the stories of clay, fire, and the skillful hands of the artisans. Through each exhibition area showcasing ancient artifacts, the beauty of Vietnamese pottery came alive, sparking imagination and a love of art in the hearts of each student.

From that inspiration, the “little artists” embarked on the most anticipated part of the experience: sculpting their own small, beautiful pottery products. With clumsy yet enthusiastic hands, each lump of clay gradually transformed into a small cup, a whimsical animal, or creative shapes bearing their own unique mark. Not stopping there, the children freely drew and decorated patterns, boldly experimenting with colors to express their imagination and emotions.

The journey became even more surprising when HASians had the opportunity to visit an art light space. Here, there were dazzling and magical effects of creativity; 14 national heroes from different periods of Vietnamese history were depicted through light art, adding to the heroism and demonstrating the strong history of the Vietnamese nation with its thousand-year-old civilization. Second-grade HASians had the chance to admire art through the interplay of light, learn more about the nation’s long history, and love their country even more.

Through the “Clay Molding and Beautiful Pottery Painting” activity, Hanoi Adelaide School aims to provide students with a complete experiential learning session – where they learn through observation, feeling, and creativity; where they cultivate a love for art, dexterity, and appreciation for traditional cultural values. Each beautiful little pottery product they take home is not only a lovely memento but also a mark of an inspiring day of learning.
