Pathway to Success – Duong Bao Anh (4H1): When learning begins with joy and self-discipline

15:24 - 30/03/2026

Primary school is a crucial stage for building study habits and laying a strong foundation for long-term development. At Hanoi Adelaide School, this journey begins with positive daily learning experiences—where students gradually develop self-discipline, confidence, and a genuine love for learning.

In the Pathway to Success series, Duong Bao Anh (Class 4A1) offers a gentle yet clear perspective on how a young student can gradually cultivate self-motivation and take greater ownership of their learning.

Starting with the Joy of Learning Every Day

Bao Anh’s day begins quite early, as her home is far from school. Yet instead of feeling tired, going to school each day is something she always looks forward to. At Hanoi Adelaide School, she is welcomed by close friends with whom she studies, shares, and supports one another. She is also excited about the lessons she gets to experience every day.

For Bao Anh, learning is not just about listening to teachers and completing assignments. Her favorite subject at H.A.S is English. In these classes, she explores stories, cultures, and people from different countries, broadening her worldview from an early age. In addition, Art provides her with a creative space where she can express her imagination and balance her emotions after academic lessons.

Most importantly, what keeps Bao Anh consistently engaged is the way teachers design their lessons. Rather than being purely instructional, each class includes activities, games, or small experiences that make knowledge more relatable and memorable. As a result, learning is no longer something she simply has to complete—it becomes a natural part of her day, making every school day something to look forward to.

Being regularly encouraged by teachers to speak up and share her thoughts has helped Bao Anh feel heard and supported. As a result, she has gradually become more confident in expressing her ideas. “Thanks to my teachers often inviting me to speak, I feel more confident and understand the lessons better when I can express my thoughts.”

Beyond delivering knowledge, teachers also guide students on how to learn, helping them recognize their strengths and gradually develop their individual abilities. For Bao Anh, this support creates a sense of security in learning, giving her the confidence to try new things without being afraid of making mistakes.

In addition, teachers at H.A.S frequently encourage students to participate in competitions—not only to strengthen their academic knowledge and skills, but also to build confidence and develop a positive mindset when taking exams. For Bao Anh, one of the most memorable milestones in her learning journey was having the courage to retake a competition after a period of dedicated practice with her teachers. From an initial result that did not meet her expectations, she achieved a much better outcome the next time.

Achievements Built on Consistency and Initiative

Bao Anh’s self-discipline has been shaped by small, consistent actions repeated every day. Rather than sudden or dramatic changes, it is these simple habits that have helped her gradually build a proactive approach to learning.

She maintains regular routines such as reviewing lessons, completing assignments, and practicing English in ways that suit her best. These simple habits create a steady and effective learning rhythm.

“I think the most important thing is to study on my own every day; otherwise, it’s very easy to forget what I’ve learned.”

Thanks to her consistent study habits and strong sense of self-motivation, Bao Anh has achieved many notable accomplishments:

  • A perfect score of 230/230 in the City Selection Round of the TOEFL Challenge (Academic Year 2025–2026)
  • Third Prize in the drawing competition “Vietnam in my heart, the world in my mind”
  • Consolation Prize, National Round of HKISO 2025
  • Consolation Prize, District-level Internet Olympiad of English (IOE) (Academic Year 2025–2026)
  • Outstanding Student and Excellent Student awards for multiple consecutive years

These achievements not only reflect her strong academic ability but also demonstrate steady growth built from small habits maintained every day.

Personalizing Learning from an Early Age

Bao Anh’s story shows that effective learning does not depend on age, but on how each student builds habits and develops a learning mindset that suits them.

“I think students should balance studying and playing so they can always feel happy and more confident.”

At Hanoi Adelaide School, the Personalized Learning Plan (PLP) is introduced early, enabling students to discover their strengths, build effective learning strategies, and progress at their own pace. With the support of both the school and families, each student not only achieves strong academic results but also develops confidence, independence, and a solid foundation for the journey ahead.
